Environmental Profile
The conservation status of this species within its natural growth range is unknown because of lack of information (Source - World Conservation Monitoring Center - 1992).

Distribution
The natural growth range of the species is reported to be Paraguay, Uruguay, and Argentina, and occurs in high concentrations in central and southeastern Brazil.

Product Sources
It is currently unknown whether lumber and other wood products from this species are available from environmentally reponsible sources.

Tree Data
The tree is reported to mature to a medium height, with a rather large trunk that reaches a diameter of about 48 inches (120 cm).

Sapwood Color
The sapwood is pinkish in color and is not always distinct from the heartwood.

Heartwood Color
The heartwood is described as often dull red or maroon, but may be lighter colored. Purplish markings are reported to be a common feature.

Grain
Grain is reported to be generally straight, but is sometimes wavy.

Texture
Texture is medium to coarse.

Luster
Luster is reported to be medium to low.

Odor
Freshly-cut wood is reported to have an aromatic smell. Seasoned wood has no distinct odor or taste.

T/R Ratio
2.33
This indicator is more meaningful if it is used together with actual shrinkage data in the tangential and radial directions. (Refer to the Numerical Values window).

Natural Durability
The heartwood is reported to have a high natural resistance to attack by decay-causing fungi and other wood destroying insects.

Veneering Qualities
The timber is reported to be peeled and sliced into veneer.

Planing
Cangerana is reported to respond readily to ordinary tools in planing and other machining operations and works to yield clean, smooth finishes.

Strength Properties
Bending strength in the air-dry condition (about 12 percent moisture content) is high - comparable to Teak. Maximum crushing strength, or compression strength parallel to grain, is high. Some familiar species with high crushing strength parallel to grain include Hard maple, Teak, and White oak. The wood is high in density.
